Learn About The Legal Stuff
Marriage License
You are engaged and you have a lot of planning to do! But don't forget about the legal aspect of your upcoming marriage! Here's a list of considerations for obtaining your marriage license in Colorado.
1. Both you and your fiancé should be present to apply for your marriage license in the state of Colorado. If you both cannot make it, the unavailable applicant will need to fill out an absentee application and sign the form in the presence of a notary.
2. Applicants do not have to be residents of Colorado.
3. The marriage license fee is $20 and only cash is accepted. There is also a $3 fee for a certified copy of the marriage license.
4. Legal age for marrying in Colorado is 18. If either you or your fiancé is under 18, special requirements apply.
5. You will be required to show a valid driver's license from any state, original or certified copy of your birth certificate with an embossed seal, military ID (with picture, signature and age of bearer), or passport. Also, be prepared to present your social security number.
6. If either of you is divorced or widowed, you must present the date and place of divorce and type of divorce court, or date and place of death.
7. There is no blood test required and there is no waiting period.
